PRIVACY POLICY

Effective Date: March 2026

Paperboy.run is an open source suite of markdown tools. Your data belongs to you — not to us, not to advertisers, and certainly not to shadowy third parties lurking behind consent banners.

What We Collect

We do not collect personal data, browsing history, or document contents. The desktop editor operates locally. The Chrome extension reads page content in your browser only when activated. The widget runs client-side on the host site.

Site Preferences & Weather

This website stores your Morning/Late Edition preference in your browser’s localStorage (not a tracking cookie). The weather blurb on the front page automatically requests a forecast from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for a rotating set of world cities each time the page loads; this exposes your IP address to Open-Meteo but sends no personal location. Separately, you can ask the blurb for local conditions, which requests your device location once and, if granted, sends those coordinates to Open-Meteo. We store neither request on our servers.

AI Polish (Optional)

The desktop editor offers an optional AI polish feature. If you choose to enable it, your text is sent to the third-party language model provider you configure (such as OpenAI or Anthropic). This is entirely at your discretion — the feature is off by default, and Paperboy never receives, routes, or stores any of that data. Your text goes directly from your machine to the provider you selected, subject to that provider’s own privacy policy.

Browser Extension Permissions

The Chrome extension requests access to all websites so it can read the current page when you open the side panel or click Re-extract. It does not run automatically, does not monitor your browsing, and does not track which pages you visit. The page URL appears in the converted markdown only as a source reference. Clipboard access is used solely for the Copy button. Nothing leaves your device.

Cookies & Local Storage

No tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or advertising cookies. The site uses localStorageonly for two non-tracking UI preferences: your Morning/Late edition choice and the file converter’s output mode (download vs. copy-to-clipboard).

Third Parties

Open-Meteo receives a city’s coordinates (and your IP) on every front-page load for the rotating weather, and your device coordinates only if you opt in to local weather. AI providers receive text only if you enable optional AI features in the desktop app or CLI. We do not sell or share data with advertisers.

Data Retention

Edition preference persists in your browser until you clear site data. We do not retain weather or location requests on our servers.

Children

Paperboy is not directed at children under 13. Because we do not collect information from anyone, this applies equally to all users regardless of age.

Changes

Should this policy ever change, we will update this page and note the effective date above. Given our philosophy, do not hold your breath.
